overview / intro

North of Lima along the coast are several towns with historic and archeological sites. We took a long weekend trip up there to check it out.
First we flew into Trujillo, capital of La Libertad department. We checked out Chan Chan and the Huacas of the Sol and Luna.

Just north from there is the town of. Huanchaco, famed for it's reed fishing boats and surfing. There is also another site called El Brujo, with the remains of a pre-Inca female ruler of the area, during the reign of the Moche culture. It had a fantastic museum and they were continuing the excavation of the site.

After that was a bus ride north for several hours to the town of Chiclayo. The historic site up there is Sipan, also from the Moche time. It had the remains of other rulers as well. The actual bones, gold, and treasures they found are in a museum in town.

Recommend:

  • El Brujo site was my personal favorite
  • The Sipan museum has the most artifacts
