Hot

It was so hot and humid when we were there, you couldn't go outside anywhere without getting drowned in sweat. Our favorite ways to pass time were hang out at the beach, hang out at the condo pool, find shade, drink water, and take naps. Which was a great way to end the vacation after all the activity of Bogota and Medellin.

Highly recommend:

  • Old town walled city
  • Cafe Del Mar for sunset
  • Boat ride to an island beach (or Bocagrande beach)
  • Fort San Felipe
  • Getsemani neighborhood

2018 Belize and Panama

a quick week trip in February 2018

80 °F
View Belize + Panama 2018 on MurkTravels's travel map.

Belize

This is probably the easiest country in Central America to travel to, with English as an official language and the US dollar not only accepted but also pegged directly with the Belize dollar. It also presents a wide range of opportunities all within several direct flights hubs within the US. One can check out history and ancient civilizations with Mayan sites, relax on the islands, or head out to sea for water activities.

Recommend:

  • Scuba diving or snorkeling
  • Checking out one of the islands (Ambergis Caye or Caye Caulker)
  • head inland for a Mayan tour ... TBD for me

Panama

I don't have much to report on Panama since I had a layover there. It was 24 hours but a chunk of that was spent at the hotel and the airport of course. Other than that I saw a quick overview of Panama City, and the sight of the Atlantic and Pacific ocean as we were flying in. It was enough to know that I want to head back and spend some more time in the country

Christmas Markets part 3 - 2017 - Germany

Munich

Cities and Castles

Our final destination on our tour of Germany was the large metro and capital of Bavaria, Munich. It has so much history and tourist attraction options, it's tough to summarize what your options are. This is the second time I've spent 3 or 4 days in Munich and mostly saw all new stuff this time and still haven't run out of things to check out. This time included a couple day trips a little further outside the main city center.

We went north to check out the Dachau concentration camp memorial site. Another day we headed south to check out some of the most well known German castles and their local small villages.

Highly recommend:

  • Marienplatz
  • Christmas markets
  • Dachau memorial
  • Linderhof castle
  • Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles
  • Theresenweise / Oktoberfest grounds

Other sites to check out:

  • 1972 Olympic site
  • Nymphenburg palace
  • BMW museum
  • Royal Residence & theater
  • Hofbrauhaus and other brew pubs
  • several local churches, universities, museums, markets, and parks

Rockies at Coors Field 2017 - Colorado USA

a national pastime

sunny 85 °F

Colorado Rockies baseball

Every once in a while, you need to get out of work a bit early and catch a sporting event. When I'm in downtown Denver, it's easiest to catch a baseball game at Coors Field. With tickets at $5 to get in the outfield "Rockpile" section, it doesn't break the bank to check out a game (and I feel it doesn't contribute to the over-paid athlete syndrome).

This summer I caught 2 Rockies games at Coors Field. The first was a thriving 5-4 win in the 9th over the NY Mets. The second was a rough 10-4 beating by the Atlanta Braves. One of the games, we won some free beers (hint: keep an eye on the big screen to enter to win) and the other we won some free sandwiches. Both times we witnessed center fielder Charlie Blackmon crush home runs.

Europe 2017 - Netherlands

Europe 2017

Decided to explore around western Europe. The trip lined up with a friend also traveling away from that same region. So I got to house sit for a few weeks in The Hague, Netherlands. I took the time to visit some other close cities too.

The Hague is an absolutely incredible city. There are plenty of personal and public transit options (big trains, light rail, bus, bike, walk) to get around easy. The city is home to several buildings and museums related to world peace. Somewhat related, it's home to the world court that handles disputes between international countries. You can walk through parks, go out to the beach community, or explore the main metro area that has a range of old castles, new age buildings, and all the hippest coffee shops. I grabbed some local delicious food, both at a farmers market as well as with fast food and the cities finest restaurants.

For some day trips, I checked out Antwerp and Brussels in neighboring Belgium. Antwerp has an incredible train station with gold everywhere. The local shops are known for their jewelry and chocolates. Brussels has Grand Place, Delirium, mini-Europe, the Atomium, and lots of cool architecture.

Another trip was farther north into the Netherlands to check out Leiden. It's a smaller city with a castle and city square where locals hang out. But the big attraction in the spring is the surrounding farms and the Keukenhof gardens to see the tulips blooming. Also checked out the main metro cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

These two little countries are an amazing region of Europe, and one of my favorites.
Continue to the next article for the Belgium pictures.
