Democrat-Lincoln-Cameron-Bross 2017 - Colorado USA

Four 14ers in a day

sunny 45 °F

overview

For those up to the challenge, this is the easiest way to get multiple 14er peaks in one day. Once you make the steep climb up to one of them, then it's just a matter of partially dropping down and climbing back up via the saddles between the peaks, instead of going all the way back down and back up each time. I had previously gone up to the peak of Mt Democrat a few weeks earlier.

These were the first, second, third, and fourth 14ers I hiked. I completed this task on July 22nd, 2017. I started around 6 am and finished around 10am. I ran whatever parts I could.

Recommend:

  • There's a camping site at the trailhead to camp overnight before the climb
  • Be sure to have an off road vehicle with high clearance for the drive up to the trailhead
  • Eat and drink plenty on the way

Medicine Bow Peak hike 2017 - Wyoming USA

from a National Forest in Southern Wyoming

sunny 88 °F

Medicine Bow Peak hike

This is a huge National Forest just about 3 hours from Denver. It covers north central Colorado and south central Wyoming. But the hiking highlight of Medicine Bow peak (and the nearby Sugarloaf Mountain and Browns Peak) is in Wyoming. So a quick drive and a National Parks pass will get you to these views too.

There are year-round recreation opportunities there, including hiking, biking, camping, horse riding, OHV riding, fishing, hunting, sightseeing, photography and a wide array of winter sports, just to name a few. Our trip was focused on the hiking. We took the Medicine Bow Peak trail on the way up, and the Lakes Trail on the way back. That round trip covers 7 miles and has a variety of landscapes, elevation changes, and trail conditions.
